On a summer visit to Osaka, Japan, we got to know a 95-year-old grandfather, a retired heart doctor. His life approach is both imaginative and focused on the community.
He’s a perfect example of aging gracefully and energetically.
Here’s what he does for a fulfilling and long life:
Morning Walks:
The grandparents get up early, starting their walk at 5 a.m.
They walk for half an hour to an hour, making sure to do at least 7,000 steps.
They change up their routes, sometimes going on hilly paths near Minoh Falls or around Ikeda, starting the day full of energy.
Purposeful Exercise:
After their walk, he follows a specific exercise plan. It includes stretching, exercises to build strength, and balance activities, tailored daily to his abilities, to keep moving actively but without overdoing it.
Social Media Connection:
Post-workout, he spends time on Facebook and Instagram to connect with family and friends.
He knows that being alone can make older people lonely, so he uses these online platforms to keep in touch with his international friends, including grandkids in the U.S.
