Intermittent fasting is all about choosing when to eat and when to take a break from eating. It’s become really popular lately, even celebrities and influencers are trying it out! They’re all over social media talking about how it helps them stay healthy and live longer. There’s even an app that helps you keep track of your fasting times and keeps you motivated.

The first kind of intermittent fasting that got really popular was the 5:2 diet. This means eating way less calories on two days of the week. But now, there’s a new way called time-restricted eating. This is where you only eat during certain hours of the day, like skipping late-night snacks or only eating during an 8-hour window.

Some scientists think intermittent fasting can help us avoid getting sick and could even make us live longer. This is because a long time ago, people didn’t have food all the time, so our bodies learned to be okay with not eating sometimes.

Can Intermittent Fasting Really Be Life-Changing?

We talked to a diet expert and two scientists who study how fasting affects our bodies. One scientist, Valter Longo, has found out that fasting can do amazing things like help beat diabetes and make cancer treatments work better. Another scientist, Ioannis Nezis, says fasting makes our cells clean themselves out, which is really good for us.

However, Aisling Pigott, a dietitian, isn’t totally sold. She thinks intermittent fasting is just a new twist on the old idea of eating less to be healthy. She sees a lot of people who struggle with their weight and says fasting isn’t the perfect answer for everyone.

So, is intermittent fasting the right choice for you? It might be worth a try, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.
