Changing to a diet focused on plants could really make a difference for your health, especially for preventing type 2 diabetes and keeping a healthy weight.
But, it’s key to know that not all plant-based diets are the same. Recent research has shown that the health perks are best when the diet has fewer processed foods and less sugar.
This big study, which went on for 12 years and included more than 113,000 people, looked closely at diets with lots of whole grains, fruits, and veggies.
What did they find? People who ate healthier plant foods and stayed away from things like white bread and sugary sodas lowered their risk of diabetes by 24%. They also had better results in their body weight, waist size, blood sugar, and inflammation.
